Around it an irregularly extending annular wall, which is followed which are basically the three main parts of the plant attracts. In the West seems to have been, perhaps with stables, a door system. The central building complex of the Remains of the walls can be seen, consisted of a building of about 10 to 8 m long and with a door on the narrow sides and probably served as a dwelling.

The buildings on the east are made up of different parts that have been built in several phases and are no longer recognizable in detail. In the southeastern area were found remains of wall paintings. The superstructures were probably mostly made of wood. In the middle of the complex is a large circular filter cistern. The low wall around it served as the foundation of a covered structure.

The property is about 10 m higher part of the plant, a narrow rocky ridge about 30 m long and 10 m wide, no traces of a building are more recognizable, but is not excluded that there once stood a tower, possibly made of wood.

History

The oldest datable archaeological finds, including a sting spur, dating from the turn of the 10th to 11th century. It can be assumed that the oldest parts of the plant Belmont originate from that period. Although the plant was inhabited proven to the 14th century, it was no longer significantly rebuilt after the middle of the 12th century. This leads to the assumption that the owners had moved their headquarters to other castles.

Belmont was the ancestral home of the family of the same name, which were part of the small circle of the noble free men of the anterior Rhine valley and possessed estates in Flims, Vals and Damphreux. The name Belmont is the Latin / Roman version of the frequent name Schoenberg. The Belmont appear in the records for the first time in the Gamertingen contracts from January 22, 1139 as witnesses mentioned a Lutefridus de Belmont. With these contracts, the Bishop of Chur sealed the purchase of various goods in the Upper Engadine by the Counts of gamers Tingen.

The Barons of Belmont were related to the barons of Vaz, possibly also with the Taraspern. They asked the Diocese of Chur canons and Conrad III. of Belmont 1273-1282 a bishop. The oldest Named Raetian student of the University of Bologna was a Henry of Belmont. With Ulrich Walter of Belmont, the family died out in 1371. About his sister Adelheid, married in first marriage to Henry of Rhazuns, reached a significant part of the inheritance to her daughter Elizabeth of Rhazuns, wife of Caspar von Sax Misox.

Belmont Castle was first mentioned in 1380 on the occasion of an exchange of goods of Elizabeth of Rhazuns with her cousin Bruno of Rhazuns. Elizabeth reserved to himself ... the Buhel ( hill ) and daz daz burgstal ze Belmunt and court ze Flyms ... and all own people, but .. the zuo the same castle ze Belmunt wilend belonged ... The castle is expected to leave at that time already have been.

Evidence of violent destruction, as during the Belmonter feud of 1352 or burn marks do not exist. It is conceivable that an earthquake in 1356 or 1358, the collapse of the castle accelerated. 1461, the plant will be mentioned again: In an arbitration award on the border between Flims and Trin ... it means hindering the burgstal Belmunt.
