Ruin Feldberg

The ruins Feldberg is located west of Pusarnitz (municipality Lurnfeld ) to Spittal an der Drau on a wooded hilltop.

Description

The simple Romanesque plant is already fallen into disrepair. Feldberg has an irregular quadrangular ground-plan, the terrain of the hill plateau below. There are only a few remnants of a tower in the form of an alluvial fan detectable. On the north and west sides are still up to 8 m high wall coatings with Fischgrätmauerwerk (opus spicatum ) available. Access was via the south -east side. In a buried cistern indicates a circular depression in the north corner.

History

The predecessor of the castle Feldberg was the ruins of Castle High above Feldberg.

The first mention was made in 1189 by Hainricus de Veldisberc, a Salzburgian ministeriales. The Feldberg castle was a bone of contention in disputes of the Counts of Gorizia, with the Salzburgian archbishopric. In 1460, partly the negotiations for peace of Pusarnitz were to have been performed here.

The castle is likely to be in decline since the end of the 16th century, after the court had been moved from Feldberg to Saxony castle. The last nurse is assigned for the year 1586, in 1658, the building was described as ruinous.
