Burgschule (Königsberg)

The Castle School was after Altstädtischer school, the Kneiphof school and the secondary school Löbenichtschen the fourth- oldest high school in East Prussia provincial capital Königsberg.

History

On August 17, 1664 gave Elector Friedrich Wilhelm in a deed of the Reformed church a land of a hundred hooves as the material basis for the entertaining school. The site for church and school had even picked out the elector. The Castle School, in the course of time, with the titles " Reformed Latin Parochialschule ", " Reformed Latin School " and " German Reformed school" provided, should have even visited children living in Poland and Lithuania Englishmen and Scots. 1720 the first Lutheran teachers was set at the Castle School, where more and more students and teachers followed. By 1800, the proportion of Lutheran students already was 75%. The Königsberg school plan was originally intended to be applied to the Castle School, but negotiations eventually failed due to the behavior of the Church College, which was about to give no privileges at the school. So the castle school was in 1813 converted into a grammar school. 1819 was designated the " Castle School". 1827 Castle School for the disposal in certain occupations was equated the high schools again.

In 1859 it was transformed into the new type of school a secondary school of the first order with effect from October 15. The transformation of the school from grammar school to secondary school was completed in 1902. The school has now received the name of "Royal Oberrealschule at the castle ." 1930 moved the castle from the school castle church square ( in the immediate vicinity of the castle church ), the country ditch. The new building had the floor plan of the Order Castle Lochstädt the Vistula Lagoon. Over the main entrance the heads of Nicolaus Copernicus, Kant, Herder, and Corinth were installed. 1955 Duisburg had taken a sponsorship for the Urban Community of Königsberg. In the same year, on 28 May 1955 the Landfermann High School took over the sponsorship for the former Collegium Fridericianum. On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the founding followed the Mercator -Gymnasium in sponsorship for the Castle School on 27 September 1958.
