The Buzău ( German also Buzaul ) is a 325 km long right tributary of the Siret in southeastern Romania. It has a catchment area of 5505 km ². In Buzau county is the main river with its largest tributaries Panatau, Slănic and Calnau.
In the valley of the river are the towns Intorsura Buzăului, Nehoiu, Patarlagele and Buzău.
The ancient name of the river Buzău is Musaeus.
The Christian Martyr Sabbas the Goth was ( according to his legend) drowned on April 12, 372 in this river because of his faith.
