Nehoiu

Nehoiu is a town in the Buzău in Romania.

Location

Nehoiu lies in the valley of the river Buzău in the southern part of the Eastern Carpathians, between the part Siriu mountains in the south and in the north of Podu Calului. The county seat of Buzău is located about 50 km south-east.

History

Nehoiu was first documented in 1549. The site lay on an important mountain pass across the Carpathians ( Braşov Brăila after ). The inhabitants occupied themselves mainly to logging in the surrounding mountains. In the 20th century Nehoiu became a local center; In 1989, the site was declared a city. The economic upheaval after the revolution in 1989 led to the loss of many jobs and the exodus of many residents. 2001, the city was declared by the Romanian Parliament to " disadvantaged area ". The main economic activities are still the forestry and wood processing. Tourism is being set up.

Population

As of the 2002 census, 11,631 residents were registered in Nehoiu, including 6,188 in the city proper, and 5,443 in the nine incorporated towns. 11,613 were Romanians and 10 Hungary.

Traffic

Nehoiu is the terminus of a railway line built in 1908 Buzău. Through the city, the National Road 10 of Braşov after Buzău. From Nehoiu also take the bus to Buzău.
