C. R. Stecyk, III

Craig R. Stecyk III ( born 1950 in Los Angeles, California) is an American photographer and graphic designer, who became famous for his portrayal of the Zephyr team.

Stecyk spent much time in his youth in Venice Beach and Santa Monica, where he began in 1972 to start with Jeff Ho and Skip Engblom the Zephyr Surf Shop, where he visually designed surfboards. His works are considered as optical pioneers of diverse subcultures, such as Zb surfing and skateboarding since he was a pioneer in the design of products. In contrast to conventional designs integrated Stecyk the motives of prevailing in these places street cultures, such as graffiti, lowrider designs and tattoos.

In particular, the emergence of the second generation of the Zephyr team, which mainly focused on skateboarding, animated Stecyk to document the rediscovered subculture photographically. His paintings were very atypical for the genre, as skateboarding originally was a popular recreational sport among young people throughout the United States and Stecyk but was incorporated underground movements and their cultures in his works. He formed so that the face with which the sport is still identified and photographed the likes of Tony Alva, Jay Adams, Stacy Peralta and Jim Muir from which all came from the Zephyr skate team.

Although the Skateboarder Magazine has already published four issues of the mid-60s, but went under due to the declining popularity. The resumption of the sheet the early 70s from the roof Publisher Surfer Magazine was marked by Stecyk 's articles which Dogtown and his skate portrayed. He is also co-founder of Juxtapoz Magazine Collective. In 2001 he produced together with Stacy Peralta, the award-winning documentary Dogtown & Z -Boys, which describes the history of the Zephyr team. He currently lives in Los Angeles.
