Cabañas, Zacapa

Cabañas is a place and a municipality in the department of Zacapa in Guatemala. The town is located approximately 150 km northeast of Guatemala City and 35 km west of the city of Zacapa near the Atlantic Highway CA 9 to 230 m altitude.

The 136 km ² large municipality located in the west Zacapas and extends from the valley of the Río Motagua in the south of it lying mountains. It has a total of almost 15,000 inhabitants, of whom the majority are Ladinos. The municipality is next to the main town of Cabañas from 19 " rural communities " ( Aldeas ) and other hamlets. Main economic activities are agriculture, craft and service sectors.

Adjacent Municipalities are Usumatlán in the north, Huité in the east and San Diego in the south. In the West Cabañas borders the departments of El Progreso and Jalapa, in the southeast also Chiquimula.
