Cabinet of Ministers of Eritrea

The transitional government of Eritrea has existed since the country's independence in 1993 and is still officially under construction state.

The Eritrean People's Liberation Front, the predecessor of today's party Unity Party of Eritrea, the People's Front for Democracy and Justice led to the Eritrean War of Independence in 1991, formed after but with the Tigray People's Liberation Front of the Transitional Government of Ethiopia. In 1993, Eritrea finally resigned from Ethiopia and formed a separate transitional government, which has ruled the country, however, until today. Free elections were announced by the Eritrean government have been but never carried out.

Since 24 May 1993, Isaias Afewerki is president of the country.

Function as the executive

Currently, there is a state agency with 24 members, consisting of the Eritrean Cabinet of Ministers and eight other state representatives. This state agency is officially the transitional government of the country.

The Cabinet of Ministers, headed by the President of Eritrea (currently Isaias Afewerki ), leads the government affairs of the Eritrean government. The National Assembly of Eritrea determined theoretically all candidates for the Cabinet. The transitional government also determines the policies of the country, passes laws and regulations and is responsible according to the not yet entered into force the Constitution of the National Assembly.

Women are relatively well represented in the transitional government: four ministries from the current total of 17 cabinet posts are currently being led by women.
