Cake (band)

Cake (often CAKE ) is a rock band from Sacramento, California that was founded in 1991. From the seven previous albums (as of 1 March 2011), some songs were between 1994 and 2004 to hits. The band consists of John McCrea, Vince DiFiore, Xan McCurdy, Gabe Nelson and Paulo Baldi.

Although their music is often classified as alternative or indie rock, it combines a number of musical styles such as funk, pop, jazz, rap and country. Other features are clever, ambiguous lyrics and the frequent use of syncopated rhythms and Vibraslap.

Their biggest hits in the U.S., the band had the songs The Distance, Never There, Sheep Go to Heaven, Rock ' n ' Roll Lifestyle, No Phone, I bombed Korea and Short Skirt / Long Jacket. In Europe they were known especially with a cover version of Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive, which can be found on their second album, Fashion Nugget (1996).

Many songs on the album Fashion Nugget were, especially in Germany, known for the film Mr. Lehmann. In some scenes is heard, inter alia, Friend is a four letter word or the above cover I Will Survive.

The song Short Skirt / Long Jacket is the theme song of the television series Chuck.

On 11 January 2011 the new album was released with the name Showroom of Compassion at the band's own label Upbeat Records. Shortly thereafter, it reached the top position on the Billboard 200 charts for a week; This was successfully accomplished with any of their albums the band.
