Cala Figuera

Template: Infobox district of a municipality in Spain / Maintenance / localidad Cala Figuera ( " figs Bay ") is a small town on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca. It is situated on the bay of the southeast coast of the island in the region ( comarca ) Migjorn.

Cala Figuera belongs to the municipality of Santanyi. The distance to the island's capital Palma is about 60 kilometers. Neighboring villages of the settlement are the administrative headquarters Santanyi Cala Santanyi and. In 2011, Cala Figuera had 770 inhabitants, of whom 730 lived within the closed building of the resort.

Location

The place is located in a two-part, fjord-like bay and was formerly the port of Santanyi. The two water arms Calo d' en Boira and Calo d'En Busques form a Y. At the hidden end of the left arm are the fishermen's houses with their characteristic boat garages.

History

The first mention of Cala Figuera is found in the year 1306. Towards the end of the 19th century, the first of residential buildings. In 1938 the first church was built, which still today - touristy misused as Diner - located in the town center.

Tourism

Tourism in Cala Figuera had its high points in the 1970s and 1980s. In the 1990s, the number of visitors declined. The result is a clearly perceptible structural change. Some older hotel buildings were demolished, other buildings stand empty. Instead of new hotels, condominiums are built with increasingly sophisticated equipment.
