Callionymoidei

Eyespot dragonet ( Synchiropus ocellatus )

The lyre Fishy ( Callionymoidei ) are a group of relatives perch ( Percomorpha ). They are ground-dwelling sea creatures.

Features

The fish have a broad, flat head, a small mouth and a scaleless, elongated body. Normally lyre Fishy have two distinctly separate dorsal fins, the first with one to four flexible spines ( absent in Draculo ). The pelvic fins have a fin spine and five soft rays. The number of vertebrae is 21 to 23, of which are seven or fewer dorsal vertebrae. The two frontal bones ( Frontal ) have grown together, its front part is reduced and partially replaced by the Mesethmoid, another skull bones.

Outer systematics

Traditionally, the lyre -like fish are placed in the order of Perciformes ( Perciformes ), which is poly-and paraphyletic in its old composition. However, the comparison of DNA sequences results in a close relationship with the pipefish -like ( Syngnathiformes ) and both Betancur -R. and colleagues as well as Near and staff to arrange the Callionymoidei in their new classification of bony fishes of this order. The relationship between these outwardly quite different groups based solely on comparison of DNA sequences and is not yet supported by morphological autapomorphies. Perhaps the lyre Fishy are the sister group of the flight cocks ( Dactylopteroidei ).

Inside systematics

Within the lyre -like fish, there are two families, twelve genera and nearly 200 species.
