Calvin Newborn

Calvin Newborn (* April 27, 1933 in Memphis, Tennessee) is an American jazz guitarist of modern jazz.

Calvin Newborn is the younger brother of pianist Phineas Newborn. He played from 1951 to 1956 in local orchestras, one of which was directed by his father in 1953, he worked for Roy Milton. In 1956 he played in a quartet of his brother and took part in the recording sessions for the albums Fabulous Phineas and Phineas ' Rainbow. Then he played with Lionel Hampton. He also appeared in 1958 on recordings with Booker Little and Max Roach in 1959 with Earl Hines and 1961 with Jimmy Forrest. He then worked as a studio musician in Memphis; in the 1970s he moved to Los Angeles. In the 1980s, he appeared as a sideman on albums by Hank Crawford and Jimmy Witherspoon in appearance.
