Cambridge is a town in Washington County in the U.S. state of Idaho. Cambridge is located approximately 160 km north- west of Boise. The town was founded in 1900 following the construction of the railway line in the Pacific and Idaho Northern Railway. The city is known for its proximity to the salmon lakes. Cambridge is the birthplace of Herman Welker, a Senator from Idaho.

Origin of the name of the place

The name of the place should have been originally Lewisville, according to the chief engineer of the railway construction line that ran through the town and led to increased settlement. Most people lived at that time still in Salubria, but there it came with the railway company to land disputes, and many to moved to Lewisville. In Idaho, there were at that time already a place called Lewiston and the Post had objections to too many places with similar names in the same area. Therefore the place was named after Albert Lewis Cambridge Study in Massachusetts, where he had studied at Harvard University.

Infrastructure

In Cambridge, there is hardly any industry, the main sources of income are animal husbandry, cultivation of grain and timber harvesting. The offers young people very little prospects for the future, but the landscape provides recreational opportunities in nature, such as fishing, hunting, hiking, water sports and snowmobiling.

School and Sports

The high school in the village was replaced in 2001 by a new building on the former, to the west of the school nearby school sports field. The boys were in football and the girls in volleyball quite successful. After the sports ground was no longer available, the sports program was merged with the neighboring town 13 km south Midvale and about in the area of the original village Salubria westerly Indian Valley in Adams County. Therefore, there is now no longer the two clubs Rangers Midvale and Cambridge Bulldogs, but the Tri-Valley Titans.
