Cameron Duncan

Cameron Duncan ( born April 20, 1986, New Zealand; † 12 November 2003 in Texas / USA) was a New Zealand scriptwriter and film director. Through a bone cancer disease he died at age 17. Shortly before his death he wrote his autobiography during his chemotherapy.

His life

Even in his youth Duncan wanted with films succeed. On weekends he introduced after the war scenes in front of the camera with friends. Even then, one recognized his special abilities. The turning point in his life came with the diagnosis of a malignant tumor in the knee. The cancer was treated using chemotherapy that destroyed the tumor apparently. His first film, DFK6498, he devoted this time against the tumor as well as the "prison" hospital. After therapy, he turned back to his favorite sport, softball.

Peter Jackson, director of Lord of the Rings, became aware shortly after the hospital stay to Duncan. Jackson and his wife Fran Walsh were initiators of organ donation organization and were looking for a director for a large-scale advertising campaign for organ transplants. After Duncan visited the two on the set of Lord of the Rings, they were fascinated by his skill.

Before Duncan could finish his work for organ donation advertising, the cancer returned. This time, the chances of recovery were very bad. In the last months of his life, Duncan Cameron created with Strike Zone a short film in which he wanted to reflect his unjust life. During the filming of cancer caused a hole in his lung. DFK6498

DFK6498 is Duncan's first experience with bone cancer at the age of 16 years. He enjoyed playing softball and had to play the dream for New Zealand, but because of his bone cancer in his left leg it was not feasible. In the film, he represents the stay in the hospital as a kind of prison and shows how he feels with his illness. He exhorts his environment, to appreciate the small things in life and tries to show how well it have the most, but because they are not sick. The film is long in about ten minutes and was rotated just after its chemotherapy. He himself was present director and script writer and played the lead role.

Strike Zone

Shortly after Duncan learned that he had to live only two months, he devoted himself to his autobiographical film. Author and director is Duncan, he was himself Produced by Sharon Duncan, cameraman was Rhys Duncan. The film shows a softball fan who decides to live his last days as coach of a softball team. He wants to be immortal so anchored in history and will never forget. At the end of the coach dies last and most important match of his team.

The song was played at his funeral, won an Oscar and Golden Globe Award and The Lord of the Rings in Jackson's movie cinema: Played The Return of the King.
