The giant bellflower (Campanula lactiflora ) is a species of the genus of the bellflower (Campanula ) in the family of the bellflower family ( Campanulaceae ).

Features

The giant bellflower is a perennial, herbaceous plant, the plant height of 40 to 100 (150 ) achieves centimeter. The plant forms a rhizome. The stalk is leafy tight. The stem leaves are short- stalked to sessile, broadly ovate - lanceolate, doubly serrate and ciliate at the edge. The numerous flowers are stalked and arranged in double screws. The branches are erect stand-off. The crown is broadly campanulate, divided to half and 15 to 25 millimeters wide. The capsule is erect, their pores are located just below the calyx.

The flowering period extends from June to July, partly to August.

Occurrence

The Giant Bellflower comes in the Northeast of Turkey, the Caucasus and the north-western Iran in humid forests, Hochstaudenfluren and subalpine meadows at altitudes 600-2500 meters in front.

Use

The giant bellflower is rarely used as an ornamental plant for perennial borders and woodland edges. It is in culture at least since 1814. There are some varieties with white, lavender blue or dark purple crown. The variety ' Pouffe ' reaches only plant height of 25 centimeters.
