Campo Baixo

Archipelago

Campo Baixo (Creole: kan pu Baxu ) is a small village in the southwest of the island of Brava, Cape Verde Islands.

About a good, paved road to the place of the next larger village, the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Monte, trains running irregularly with the typical of the Cape Verde Aluguer buses can be reached. Also to the neighboring Tantum in the south of the island leads a good road. Almost all the inhabitants of Campo Baixos live on agriculture (mainly corn ), also some livestock (cows ) is operated. The village consists mainly of single-storey houses with a hipped roof.

On the eastern edge of Campo Baixo falls - as in other villages Brava - a large concrete surface on a hillside on. It is used for collecting rain water, since water scarcity is also in Campo Baixo a big problem. In the village there is a school and a few small shops for daily expenses, but no church.

Located near the village in the southwest on a rock on the road to Palhal a small chapel in the shape of a ship with the name of Santa Maria and two masts worth seeing. Similar chapels and monuments can be seen in other parts of the Cape Verde Islands, for example, in the 15 km distant island capital of Vila Nova Sintra.
