Camulus

Camulos, also Camulus, is a Celtic deity whose worship is backed by some of consecration panels. It is usually equated with the Roman Mars in the interpretatio romana. The etymology of the name is unclear.

Mythology

Inscriptions have been found in Rome, Rheims, Arlon ( Orolaunum in the province of Gallia Belgica ), cattle ( Harenatium in Germania Inferior ), Mainz ( Mogontiacum in Germania Superior) and Kilsyth / Bar Hill on Hadrian's Wall in Scotland. The consecration stone in Bar Hill was built by the Syrian archers from Hama on the Orontes. Camulos was also a common element in Celtic place names ( for example, Camulodunum, Colchester ). The significance as a name component in personal names, for example Andecamulos ( inscription from Nevers ( Noviodunum ], Gallia Lugdunensis ) Province or Caesars enemy Camulogenus is controversial.

Except in Rome equating is everywhere given by Mars. The name is interpreted as a Camulos grantors in war patron god.
