Canal Fulton is a municipality in Stark County in the U.S. state of Ohio, about 25 km south of Akron. The village has about 5,000 inhabitants (as of the census of 2010). In 1982, parts of the village incorporated as Canal Fulton Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.

History

Began in 1822 in Ohio, planning for the construction of a canal, Lake Erie with the Ohio River should connect. After the State Canal Commission had decided on a course of the Ohio - Erie Canal east of the Tuscarawas River, 25 new villages built here 1824-1836. Canal Fulton was founded in 1826 under the name Milan by two men from Canton ( Ohio). 1832 - after the completion of the Ohio - Erie Canal - the village was renamed in honor of the inventor Robert Fulton in Canal Fulton.
