Canyon Ferry Lake

The Canyon Ferry Lake is a reservoir on the upper reaches of the Missouri River in southwestern Montana.

The dam is at the foot of the Big Belt Mountains, a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains. Nearby are the towns of Helena and Townsend. Situated at the northern end of the lake Canyon Ferry Dam ( ⊙ 46.648586-111.727579 ) was completed in 1954.

The Canyon Ferry Lake covers an area of 142 km ² and has a 122 km long shoreline. The reservoir is used for power generation, irrigation and flood control. The water height is 1158 m.

The Canyon Ferry Lake is a popular destination for recreational activities such as boating and fishing. In winter, the lake is used for ice sailing.
