Canzone

Canzone (derived from the Italian word for song canzone ) is a lyrical, originally unanimous and later polyphonic music form.

History

The music genre originated from the 13th to the 16th century in Italy, initially as a unanimous set to music poetry. The melody joined while the verses ( lugs and swan song ) formally. Since the 14th century canzone was the name for polyphonic secular songs and thus the Italian equivalent of the French chanson.

From the rather simple Canzona Canzona alla napolitana or Villanesca ( Villanelle ) distinction was the more artistic Canzone alla francese in the 16th century. This form of music became then in the transmission for organ or instrumental ensemble - for example, by the composer Andrea Gabrieli and Giovanni Gabrieli - as Canzon as sonar an important significance for the formation of independent instrumental music.

Since the 18th century, the term canzone mainly refers to a vocal or instrumental lyrical piece of music.
