Cape Egmont Cape Egmont or is the westernmost point of Taranaki on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It is close to the volcanic cone of Mount Taranaki or Mount Egmont.

It got its first European name Cabo Pieter Boreels 1642 by the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman, in 1769 it received its present name from James Cook Cape Egmont. Tasman had the Mount Taranaki not seen because of poor visibility. Cook named the mountain "Mount Egmont ", rendered the name on the Cape. The Cape Egmont Lighthouse on the Cape was originally built on Mana Iceland near Porirua. He was implemented here in 1877.
