Capitol (named after the Capitol in Rome ) is a board game played by Aaron Weiss Blum and Alan R. Moon. The 2001 published by Schmidt Spiele building game set in ancient Rome. It was later re-released by Jolly Roger Games under the name Clock Towers as a faster card game variant.

Game play

Capitol is played in four rounds, each round is divided into four phases: construction, improvement, points and final phase. During the construction phase, the player can perform actions with their hand cards.

  • Structure maps allow the construction of two wooden flooring ( small wooden blocks). These can be added to an unfinished building or use to start a new building.
  • Roof cards allow to complete the building by placing a round or triangular roof on a stack of floor maps. Once a building is complete, you can place it on the board with an authorization card.
  • The permit card comes in three different colors: pink, blue and purple. Each fits into one of three sectors on the game board.

Once all players have once passed the Kartenausspielen, the improvement phase begins. This is a very quick round of betting where the player fountain, amphitheater and temple can win.

It follows the phase points. Each of the nine areas will be considered by the first and second player be determined. The first player of each area receives two points. Does the section a fountain, the first and the second player an additional point. Does the section a temple, all points will be doubled.

The last phase is the final phase. Each player draws one after the other six cards of the uncovered buildings, roofing and authorization cards. If an area has an amphitheater, the first player draws two extra cards and the second player one.

The player who at the end of the fourth round with the most cards wins the game.

Was published in 2009 by Skyline 3000 a new edition of Capitol, which takes the gameplay of its predecessor almost unchanged, but turns now to build a metropolis in the future.
