Carel Polak

Carel Hendrik Frederik Polak ( born September 2, 1909 in Rotterdam, † February 28, 1981 in Oegstgeest, Zuid-Holland province ) was a Dutch jurist, professor and politician of VVD.

Life

Study, administration officials and university teachers

Originally from a Jewish family Polak began after visiting the school Haganum in September 1927 Studied law at the State University of Leiden, which he called " cum laude" completed in July 1931. He then began his career as Secretary of the Supervisory Board of the company Electriciteitsbedrijf Zuid -Holland ( EZH ) NV, before he then 1934 official in the provincial registry in The Hague, where he worked as a trainee last January 1940 to November 1946.

In November 1946, he first became Professor of Economics and Agricultural Law at the Agricultural University of Wageningen, where he last until September 1951, taught economics, law and political sciences. Subsequently, he was appointed in September 1951 as Professor of Administrative Law and Agricultural Law at the State University of Leiden and taught there until April 1967.

On 29 April 1963 Polak was appointed Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion.

Ministers and deputy

On April 5, 1967 Polak was appointed by Prime Minister Piet de Jong Minister of Justice in his cabinet and was this until the end of de Jong's term of office on 6 July 1971.

In elections in May 1971, he was also selected as the candidate of the VVD as a member of the Second Chamber of the States General, and was this for two terms until March 1977.

For his political merits took place on July 17, 1971 he was appointed Commander of the Order of Orange -Nassau.

After his retirement from Parliament he was appointed in March 1977 State Council for Special Tasks and held that office until October 1977.
