Caridina

Amanogarnele ( Caridina multidentata )

Caridina is the most diverse genus of the family of freshwater prawns ( Atyidae ), about 260 species are known. Type species is C. typus. This group midget shrimp is extremely complex, and in 1925 tried Eugène Louis Bouvier them to be broken down on the basis of morphological characteristics in individual groups. This classification is indeed still occasionally used, but their validity has only partially inventory. The assignment of individual species is also complicated by the fact that some older species descriptions are incomplete or interpretable. As a result, the systematics of this genus is in need of revision and future restructuring is likely.

These include, for example, the bee and the tiger shrimp, which are currently provided both in the vicinity of C. cantonesis. The traded as green dwarf shrimp species is placed in the vicinity of C. babaulti.

Use

Caridina species have increased in recent years in the aquarium hobby in importance. In the pet trade a number of species and cultivated forms are available now. However, the terms used in the trade can not always draw conclusions about the actual species membership of copies offered to.
