Carl Devlies

Carl Devlies ( born January 23, 1953 in Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a Belgian politician of the Christian Democratisch en Vlaams (CD & V). He has long been active as a local in Leuven and is a member since 2003 of the Chamber of Deputies. Devlies is the current Secretary of State for the coordination of the fight against fraud in the federal government Leterme II

Life

Carl Devlies is the son of former politician Paul Devlies (CVP ). He studied law and economics at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL ) and then worked as a lawyer in Leuven.

His political career began in 1985 to 1988 as a consultant in the Cabinet of the Flemish Minister President Gaston Geens (CVP ). From 1989 he was a juror office in the city of Louvain and took care of various areas ( such as culture, tourism, finance, sports). From 1995 to 2007 First was alderman of the city. Thus he was able in 1998, as the incumbent mayor Louis Tobback ( SP) for a short time as Minister of the Interior joined the government Dehaene II, assume the office of the serving Mayor of lions.

In addition Devlies is represented in the federal Chamber of Deputies since 2003. In 2008 he was promoted to the federal government, and has since held the office of Secretary of State for the coordination of the fight against fraud.
