Carl Haeberlin

Carl Häberlin (* December 15, 1870 in Ranchi, India, † November 12, 1954 in Wyk auf Foehr ) was a German physician, naturalist and founder of the eponymous Dr. Carl- Häberlin Museum in Wyk auf Foehr.

Life and work

Haeberlin was born the son of a Protestant missionary in India. The family moved back to Germany in 1873 and settled in Swabia, where Häberlin spent his youth.

He studied medicine, put 1895 in Tübingen the state exam and received his doctorate. In 1902 he moved to Wyk auf Foehr, and opened a medical practice there. Besides his activities as bathing doctor Häberlin also worked extensively with the marine medicine and science topics.

With Carl Gmelin he was jointly involved in the development of bioclimatic research institute in Wyk. 1906 published Häberlin the Wyk Chronicle on the occasion of 200 anniversary of the local patch, 1919, the Chronicle of the resort Wyk for the 100th anniversary of the resort.

In the old city of Wyk auf Foehr a street is named after him.

Haeberlins widow Leonore died on 27 April 1994 in Wyk at the age of 94 years.
