Carl-Henric Svanberg

Carl -Henric Svanberg (* May 29, 1952 in Porjus Jokkmokk Municipality ) is a Swedish graduate engineer, economist and entrepreneur. He was from 2003 to end of 2009, CEO of Ericsson and since January 2010 Chairman of the Board of Directors of BP.

Curriculum vitae

Svanberg holds a Masters in Applied Physics from the Linköping Institute of Technology and a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Uppsala. After graduating in 1977 he worked for Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) in various international tasks in the area of ​​export. In 1986 he moved to Securitas, the world leader in the security field. Four years later he was appointed First Executive Vice President of the Securitas Group. 1994, he became CEO of Assa Abloy Group. CEO of telecommunications company Ericsson, he was then from April 2003 to the end of December 2009. After his resignation to the Chief Executive Officer, he remained on the board of Ericsson and holds 3,234,441 shares of the Company. Svanberg was a member of the Board of BP as the Chairman designate on 1 September 2009, and was followed by Peter Sutherland in the presidency from 1 January 2010.

On 16 June 2010 Svanberg met with other BP executives Tony Hayward and Bob Dudley, together with U.S. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden to discuss the responsibility of BP for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. It caused a media uproar when he called BP's concern for the little people on the Gulf Coast of the United States and the threat to their lives by the oil disaster with these words: ".
