Carl Herold

Carl Herold, Karl Herold ( born July 20, 1848 in Loevelingloh, County Munster, † January 13, 1931 in Münster ( Westphalia ) ) was a German politician of the center.

Life and career

Herold was the son of Ferdinand Herold, the first professor of pharmaceutical botany at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster was and was marrying owner of the goods Lövingloh in a circle Münster. After graduating from high school in Münster ( Westphalia ) Herold studied 1867/68 at the University of Halle, but then completed an agricultural training. In 1870, he took over his father's estate house Loevelingloh. He was director of the agricultural Central Association for the administrative district of Münster. He also served on the board of the Chamber of Agriculture of Westphalia, Westphalian peasant association as well as the federal government for rural welfare. In addition, Herold was chairman of the examination committee for agricultural machinery and equipment in Westphalia. Director of the Dairy Association of Westphalia and Lippe. He also sat on the board of the rural Central Fund and the Association of rural cooperatives. Overall Herold is the successor of Burghard von Schorlemer - Alst as representatives of the Westphalian agriculture. But he also had relations with the socio-political wing of the Catholic milieu and therefore belonged to the People's Association for Catholic Germany. Already its predecessor organization " working well " belonged to Herold and sat on the advisory board of the Centre for People's Welfare. Party

Herold was a member of the center and was temporarily President of the National Association of Westphalia. Also in the party, he was first and foremost representatives of rural interests, but was among the peasants at times controversial, however. So he was set up to parliamentary elections in 1924 not by the farmers of Munster country, but from a predominantly industrially defined constituency in southern Westphalia.

Member of Parliament

Herold was for several decades a member of the county council in the district of Münster and also belonged to the local county committee. He was a member of the provincial Landtag the province Westphalia. From 1890 to 1918 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives, where he served as vice chairman of the Centre Party. He represented the constituency as a Member of Munster 2 ( Steinfurt - Ahaus ). From 1919 he was Member of Parliament until his death in Prussia. He was Chairman of the Group.

From 1898 to 1918 Herold was a member of the Diet of the Empire. First, he represented the constituency there Fulda Gersfeld - Schlüchtern, from 1903 the constituency Tecklenburg Steinfurt- Ahaus. Since Herold was considered representative of the agricultural interests within the center, the merchant William Sträter was nominated as opposition candidate against him in the general election in 1903 the part of the industrial wing within the Centre Party. 1919/20, he was a member of the Weimar National Assembly. Then he was again a member of parliament until his death. He opened the fifth session of the Diet in 1930 as interim president.

Family

Carl Herold was married to Maria Kinscherf, but died early. His son Ferdinand Herold was a doctor of law and 1920 until his premature death in 1935 co-CEO of cotton spinning Bartmann & Son in Wegberg.
