Carl Ludwig Wilhelm Grolman

Carl Ludwig Wilhelm Grolman since 1812 by Grolmann, ( born July 23, 1775 in Giessen, † February 14, 1829 in Darmstadt) was a lawyer and Hessian Minister and Prime Minister.

His parents were the Hessian Councillor Adolf Ludwig Grolman (1722-1795) and his wife Anna Sophie of Rauen ( 1744-1827 ).

Life

Grolman enrolled on September 25, 1791 as a student of law at the University of Giessen. Later he moved to the Friedrich -Alexander- University of Erlangen. In Giessen, he was a member of the Harmonistenordens and the Corps Franconia (1792 ). Grolman habilitated in 1795 in Giessen and in 1798 there Associate Professor, 1800 Full Professor of Law. In 1804 he was Oberappellationsgerichtsrat. From 1810 to 1812 he served as Rector of the University, from 1815 to 1820 as a university chancellor.

All his life he was considered a good friend, but scientific counterparty Paul JA of Feuerbach's because Grolman rejected the theory of psychological coercion in criminal law.

Ennobled in 1812, he was since 1816 in Darmstadt Chairman of the Law Commission of the Grand Duchy of Hesse, since 1819 Minister of State and Minister of Interior since 1821, such as the judiciary and prime minister. He died as Hessischer Real privy.

Family

He was married April 1, 1798 Emilie Maria Katharina Sophie van de Wall ( 1775-1828 ). The couple had five sons and five daughters, of whom two sons and one daughter died young, including:

  • Johann August (1805-1848), professor of law at Giessen
  • Eduard (1812-1890) Grand Ducal Hessian Lieutenant General and War Minister
  • Wilhelmine ∞ Friedrich von Hombergk to Vach († 1858) Hofgerichtspräsident
