Carl Melles

Carl Melles, Hungarian Károly Melles ( born July 15, 1926 in Budapest, † April 25, 2004 in Vienna ) was an Austrian conductor of Hungarian origin.

Appearances

Melles conducted among others, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestra and the New Philharmonia Orchestra in London and has performed with soloists such as Wilhelm Kempff, Nathan Milstein, David Oistrakh, Maurizio Pollini, Sviatoslav Richter, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Arthur Rubinstein.

In addition to performances at the Vienna Festival, the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals Melles also occurred internationally, especially in the U.S., Japan and South Africa. From 1996 lived Melles retired for health reasons in Vienna.

From his marriage with actress Judith Melles, born Rohonczy, comes the actress Sunnyi Melles.

Carl Melles was buried in the cemetery in Vienna Hietzinger.

Recordings

From Melles there is a live recording of the nine Beethoven symphonies with the Braunschweig State Orchestra, whose conductor he honor then was in 1995.

Awards

1995 Melles received the Large Silver Medal of the Republic of Austria.
