Carl Robinson ( 2009)

Carl Robinson ( born October 13, 1976 in Llandrindod Wells ) is a former Welsh footballer. After his career in late 2011 he was an assistant coach with the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Career

Association

Robinson began his football career at the then second division club Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he signed a professional contract in 1995. To get more match practice, the Welshman was awarded to the following season at Shrewsbury Town. With these he reached the 1996 final of the Football League Trophy. In the game against Rotherham United but the club was defeated 1-2. After Robinson had returned, he came to regular operations with the Wanderers. 1996/97 the club reached the play- off round for promotion to the Premier League, but where you failed in the semis. Year after year, the Wolves missed the re- qualification for the highest English football class. It was not until 2001/ 02 placed one on rank three, which made possible the entry into the promotion round, but the club missed this after a defeat against Norwich City.

In the summer of 2002, Robinson decided to form an association change and transferred to league rival Portsmouth. With these he won the second league and entered 2003 in the Premier League. Much, however, he could not contribute to this performance. Between 2003 and 2004, the midfielder was loaned to five different club. So also at the AFC Sunderland. There persuaded Robinson and signed in 2004 a three -year contract with First Division participants. With the AFC the Welshman won for the second time in his career the second division, Wober he was a regular player a major player of the climb. But in the Premier League, it was Robinson again heavy and therefore could lend itself to the unterklassigen club Norwich City, before he finally signed there in 2006.

On 31 January 2007 he moved away from the island, Robinson moved to North America to the newly founded Toronto FC. He quickly rose to become a service provider and a fan favorite at the Canadian Club. In the first year at the club TFC supporters voted him the Most Valuable Player of the club. In the following year the award was confirmed and Robinson received for the second time. With Toronto midfielder won the 2009 Canadian Championship. In March 2010, Robinson moved with his teammate Greg Sutton in the U.S. to the New York Red Bulls. There he stands in his team with Akteueren like former Barcelona players Rafael Márquez and Thierry Henry and Juan Pablo Angel and Bouna Coundoul.

National

From 1999 to 2009 Robinson played for the Welsh national team. Previously, he was already in the squad of junior teams. He made his debut in 1999 against a white russian choice. In April 2009 he announced after Wales failed to qualifying for the 2010 World Cup to end his international career. His last game in the dress of the Welsh denied the midfielder on 28 March 2009 at the World Cup qualification match against Finland.
