Carl Teike

Carl Teike ( born February 5, 1864 in Altdamm, † May 28, 1922 in Landsberg on the Warta River; Complete name Carl Albert Hermann Teike ) was a German military musician and composer. He has composed the popular Old comrades march.

Life and achievements

Teike was born the son of a master blacksmith in Altdamm near Stettin. At the age of 14 he came to the town bandmaster of Wollin, Paul Hooper, where he learned to play various instruments and four years occurred in the ensemble of Böttcher, so also in the seaside resort of Międzyzdroje. From 1883 he was an oboist in the Grenadier Regiment " King Charles " ( 5 Württembergisches ) No 123 in Ulm, where he composed his first marches, of which Old Comrades is the most famous. After his military service, he was first an employee of the city police of Ulm, then after 1895 a police officer in Potsdam.
