Carline thistle ( Carlina acaulis)

Eberwurzen or golden thistle ( Carlina ) are a lime-loving, thistle-like plant genus in the sunflower family ( Asteraceae). The bracts of the inflorescence open or close depending on the current humidity.

In Central Europe, two species are used: the silver thistle, also Stemless carline thistle ( Carlina acaulis) called, and the gold thistle, the congregation also carline thistle ( Carlina vulgaris) called.

Description

Eberwurzen are annual to perennial plants with distelartigem appearance. They have an edgy stems. The leaves are alternate or basal, spiny toothed. They are lanceolate with unterseits prominent veins.

The bloom conditions have a diameter of 2-13 cm. They are available individually or in doldigen total inflorescences sessile or short-stalked. The bracts are imbricate in several rows, the innermost is trockenhäutig and rigid, yellow or silver gray. The inside is shiny and extended and deceptive florets before. In damp weather, close the bracts. The basket bottom is flat and has chaff leaves, sometimes bristles. The Pappushaare are pinnate. The flower heads consist only of tubular flowers.

The genus Carline thistle ( Carlina ) is divided into six subgenera. There are 32 recognized species:

  • Subgen. Lyrolepis ( Crete, South Aegean) Carlina DIAE ( Rech.f. ) Meusel & Kästner, is only found on Crete.
  • Carlina tragacanthifolia Klatt
  • Subgen. Mitina ( Mediterranean ) Carlina lanata L.
  • Grape Eberwurz ( Carlina racemosa L.)
  • Subgen. Heracantha ( Mediterranean to Central Europe) Akanthusblättrige Eberwurz or Pyrenean Carline thistle ( Carlina acanthifolia space. ), With three subspecies: subsp. acanthifolia
  • Subsp. cynara ( DC.) Arcang.
