Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa

Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa ( born September 27, 1920 in Saluzzo, Piedmont, † September 3, 1982 in Palermo, Sicily ) was a general of the Italian carabinieri, famous for his fight against the Italian terrorism in the 1970s.

From 1966 to 1973 he commanded as colonel in Palermo, Carabinieri Legion. Then he was promoted to General and Commander of the Carabinieri Division " Pastrengo " in Milan. In 1974 he became commander in the region of Piedmont - Aosta and organized the fight against terrorism in Turin. With the introduction of Silvano Girotto, he succeeded in September 1974 Renato Curcio and Alberto Franceschini, leaders of the Red Brigades arrest. In 1977 he was elevated to the main person responsible for security in state prisons. From August 1978 he was appointed to coordinate the fight against terrorism in Italy as a whole.

After the murder of the politician Aldo Moro he intensified the hunt for the Red Brigades. It get him some success in the identification and arrest of actors of the murder of Aldo Moro. Even before the completion of this work he was called unexpectedly to Sicily to end there as police chief of Palermo caused by the mafia state of emergency. He often complained about the lack of support by the Italian State. On September 3, 1982 succumbed he and his wife Emanuela Setti Carraro, who had gotten married on July 12, the consequences of the assassination of the Mafia. The tracks, which he held in his hand in connection with the kidnapping of Aldo Moro were lost.

At the funeral on the day of his funeral in Palermo it came before the church of San Domenico to memorable, violent riots. On March 22, 2002, a court sentenced the murderer in Palermo Madonia Antonio and Vincenzo Galatolo to life imprisonment, Francesco Paolo Anzelmo and Calogero Ganci to 14 years in prison.

His son Nando Dalla Chiesa was involved in the anti-Mafia Party La Rete.

1984 his short fight against the Mafia until his assassination in the French-Italian movie 100 days from Palermo ( Cento giorni a Palermo ) was filmed with Lino Ventura in the lead role.
