Carlo Denina

Carlo Giovanni Maria Denina, ( born February 28, 1731 in Revello in Piedmont, † December 5, 1813 in Paris ) was an Italian philologist and historian.

Denina studied in Turin, the fine arts and theology. 1754 he was appointed professor of humanities in Pinerolo, which he did by his superiors displeasing comedy, which he had put on by his students, lost. In 1756 he was associate professor of rhetoric, later professor of Greek and Italian literature at the College of the University of Turin.

When he secretly published his work " Dell'impiego delle persone " despite a ban on his employer in Florence, he was sent by the University for six months in a seminar to Vercelli and referenced after this penalty by Revello. It was not until 1781 he was allowed to return to Turin. In 1782 he moved to ask Frederick the Great to Berlin, where he worked from November 7, 1782 to January 24, 1812 Full member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences. In 1787 he became a member of the Academy of Sciences in Erfurt profit.

Later, he had the title of Legation Council and a canonry in Warsaw. After the battle of Marengo, the Board of Piedmont appointed him librarian of the University of Turin; but before he took office, Napoléon Bonaparte gave him for the dedication of his " Clef des langues " in 1804 the post of imperial librarian in Paris.

Denina written numerous historical works such as over the ancient Greece, Prussia, Frederick the Great and Germany, that are written partly in French.
