Carlo Emanuele Pio di Savoia ( born January 5, 1585 Ferrara, † June 1, 1641 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Pio di Savoia was the so-called political cardinal. His appointment was made in 1604 by Clement VIII to politically closer link between the Duchy of Ferrara itself. Ferrara was a papal fief. The last Duke of Ferrara, Alfonso II d' Este, had died without legitimate heirs. The Pope was therefore entitled to the Duchy reintegrate his territory.
