Carlo Rainaldi

Carlo Rainaldi ( born May 4, 1611 Rome, † February 8, 1691 ibid ), son of Girolamo Rainaldi, was an architect of the Roman Baroque, he also worked as a composer.

He first studied with his father Girolamo and collaborated on numerous projects with him, such as the Palazzo Nuovo and the Palazzo Pamphili. After the death of his father in 1655, Carlos major works such as Santa Maria in Campitelli arose, S. Agnese in Agnone, Sant'Andrea della Valle, the two churches on the Piazza del Popolo, among others

Characteristic of his construction is the staggering free-standing pillars, as seen especially in the church of Santa Maria in Campitelli.

Besides his work in the field of architecture is Rainaldi also devoted to the construction of tombs, such as that of Pope Clement IX. in Santa Maria Maggiore.
