Girolamo Rainaldi

Girolamo Rainaldi ( born May 4, 1570 Rome, † July 15, 1655 ) was an Italian architect of Mannerism. He constructed mainly church building and was a rival of Gian Lorenzo Bernini. His father was a painter, born in 1611 his son Carlo Rainaldi, an architect of the baroque.

Girolamo Rainaldi was designed by Domenico Fontana and then worked together with Giacomo della Porta, whom he succeeded as Papal architect. In this role he was, inter alia, participated in the work on St. Peter's Basilica. In Bologna, he was active.

Rainaldi is buried in Santi Luca e Martina, Rome.
