Carlo Savina

Carlo Savina ( born August 2, 1919 in Turin, † June 20, 2002 in Rome ) was an Italian film composer

Life and work

Savina completed his training at the Turin Conservatory in composition, violin, piano, organ and orchestral conducting and became first violinist and conductor of the Orchestra of RAI. His great success on the radio during the 1950s led to commissions for film scores.

Here he combined sent symphonic music and songs to film scores. He has long been the favorite conductors of Nino Rota and recorded as responsible for the best film music of Fellini. In this capacity he was responsible for the music recordings, for example, Ben Hur, Sodom and Gomorrah, El Cid, The Godfather, Tess and Romeo and Juliet.

Savina worked with orchestras around the world and created more than 150 scores for films of all genres. Many of his compositions were jukebox hits of the 1960s and 1970s, the films themselves lacked most of class, which detracted from the success of the compositions.

In addition to his active career, he worked for many years as an official in associations and was an advisor to the Società Italiani authori ed Editori ( SIAE ).
