Carlos J. Moreno

Carlos Julio Moreno ( born July 30, 1946 in Sevilla, Valle del Cauca ) is a Colombian- American mathematician.

Moreno graduated from New York University with a bachelor's degree in 1968 and his doctorate in 1972 at Leon Ehrenpreis ( Zeros of exponential polynomials and Diophantine Analysis). In 1971 he became assistant professor and later professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign. Since 1985 he has been Professor of Mathematics at Baruch College of the City University of New York.

It deals with applications of representation theory and automorphic forms in number theory and algebraic geometry, analytic properties of Euler products and the context of algebraic curves and error-correcting codes.

1975/76 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study and 1979/80 at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques ( IHES ). In 1980 he was a Fulbright Senior Visitor in Colombia and in 1990 he was a visiting scientist at the University of Göttingen. Moreno is a U.S. citizen.
