After graduation he moved to the capital, Mexico and received at the National Autonomous University of Mexico a legal education, which he supplemented with a study of Latin American literature. At the same time he studied at the Colegio de México with Hebrew, turned to the classical and modern Greek, Latin and French, Portuguese, Italian and English language. Services

Carlos Montemayor tried to reconcile in his literary work social issues with aesthetic demands. His life's work covers very different areas of interest, which were all very important to him. This includes his literary work, his employment with the ancient classical authors, but also his commitment and the promotion of Mexican indigenous literature of the present. As a journalist he published critical commentaries on contemporary events in major newspapers and magazines of the country. As a socially committed artist, he grappled with the Zapatista uprising in Chiapas state, and was last in the Conciliation Commission between the Government and the Partido Democrático Popular Revolucionario - Ejército Popular Revolucionario ( PDPR EPR ), which strove for the whereabouts of two of disappeared political activists.
