Caroline von Holnstein
Caroline of Holnstein, born Baroness von Spiering ( born May 8, 1815 in Fronberg / Schwandorf, † July 24, 1859 in Fronberg / Schwandorf ) was a Bavarian nobleman. Her portrait is one of the most famous of the 36 portrait paintings of beauty gallery of King Ludwig I in the Nymphenburg Palace.
Life
Caroline Maximiliana Maria Baroness von Spiering was born on 8 May 1815 Fronberg castle. She was the fifth child of Carl Theodor Freiherr von Spiering and his wife Johanna Nepumukena born Baroness von Enzberg. However, a popular rumor, according to her biological father to have been Charles of Bavaria, the brother of the Bavarian Crown Prince.
Marriage with Count Holnstein from Bavaria
After the death of his father in 1829 began the search for a suitable husband. On November 9, 1831 she married only 16 - year 18-year- old Bavarian landowners and royal chamberlain Karl Theodor Graf Holnstein ( 1797-1857 ). For this marriage said the effort to land the families Spiering and merge of Holnstein. In Munich, where the couple lived, the position of her husband opened so many doors at court. On December 8, 1833, the beautiful Countess fell to King Louis I. during a Hofakademie on for the first time. This friendship remained even after Ludwig had ascended the throne as King of Bavaria. Max von Holnstein brought Louis " Emperor letter" to Otto von Bismarck.
Relationship with Baron von Künsberg
However, the noble way of life bored Caroline. On one of the noble feasts Caroline fell in love with the handsome Baron Wilhelm von Künsberg. The married Künsberg replied the feelings that were henceforth exchanged in secret. As the wife Künsbergs died in 1836, Caroline left her husband and moved with her lover to her castle in Fronberg. Künsberg had to take off the Cuirassier uniform because of his love. Her husband, Karl Theodor Graf von Holnstein from Bavaria, however, tolerate the relationship and his wife refused to divorce. This went so far that the legitimate and illegitimate children and his wife were brought up together. Only after the death of Count Holnstein the way to the altar was free. On September 21, 1857 they gave themselves in the Sanctuary on the Kreuzberg in Schwandorf the knot.
The illegitimate children of Caroline and William of Künsberg were then legitimized and taken in the Bavarian baron under the name Künsberg Freiherr von Fronberg on July 7, 1859. This legitimacy was able to experience the mother yet. Caroline died shortly afterwards on 24 July 1859 in her castle in Fronberg and was also buried there. The sarcophagus with their mortal remains stands in an adjoining room to chapel.

The picture in the gallery of beauties is 71.5 cm high and 58 cm wide. On the back it is labeled: " Caroline Countess Holnstein born from Bavaria Freyin of Spiering saw the light of day on the Good Frohnberg in Bavaria the May 8, 1815 Painted by J. Stieler 1834. ". On February 18, 1834 the portrait in Stieler's studio in the Munich Residenz in work. In May 1834 was paid.
