Carroll Dickerson

Carroll Dickerson (* November 1, 1895; † October 9, 1957 in Chicago ) was an American bandleader and violinist of the Oldtime Jazz and Swing.

Life and work

Carroll Dickerson played a significant role as a bandleader in Chicago. First he headed from 1922 to 1924 occurring in a " Sunset Cafe " band with which also went on an extended tour, quickly known in the Louis Armstrong was ( and took his place ). His " Carroll Dickerson Savoyagers " then appeared at the Savoy Ballroom, but also in New York in the late 1920s. In his " Savoy Orchestra" playing musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Buster Bailey, George Mitchell, Earl Hines and Zutty Singleton. The musicians of Armstrong's Hot Five and Hot Seven from 1927 were musicians of Dickerson Orchestra, he has participated in several recordings as a violinist with. He was also with King Oliver on tour. He briefly led the Mills Blue Rhythm Band, before he returned to Chicago.
