Carsix

Carsix is a commune with 244 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region.

Geography

Carsix is located in the north of France in the southern landscape Lieuvin, 54 kilometers southeast of Le Havre, 7.7 kilometers northeast of Bernay, headquarters of the sub-prefecture of the arrondissements, and 4.8 kilometers northwest of Serquigny, the capital of the Association of Municipalities Risle Charentonne on an average height of 141 meters above sea level. The Mairie stands at a height of 157 meters. Neighboring communities of Carsix are Boisney the northwest, Fontaine- la- Soret in the east, in the southeast Serquigny and Saint -Léger -de- red in the southwest. The municipality has an area of ​​657 hectares. The hamlet Malbrouck on the former Route nationale 13 (since 2006 D613 ) belongs to the municipality.

Carsix is one of the municipalities in the department of Eure, in which the risk suddenly forming meter deep holes there. The so-called Marnières are old marl pits, which can be opened, for example, after heavy rain, when the rubble filling is washed into the side passages. On average, there are about 15 in the Eure underground cavities, particularly Marnières and infiltration routes per square kilometer. In Carsix there are 17 former marl pits, two karstic cavities and five other underground cavities.

The municipality is one of the type Cfb climate zone ( Köppen and Geiger after ) assigned: Warm Temperate rain climate ( C ), fully wet ( f), the warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C ( b). There is a maritime climate with moderate summer.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1180 under the name Caresis. The lands of Carsix belonged to the late 14th century, the Seigneur of Thibouville. Through marriage of the heiress of Henri de Thibouville Gouvis Carsix received in 1420. Received in 1560 Pierre du Fay II, vicomte de Pont -Audemer, the Seigneurie. In the 17th century a branch of the family Fay de Carsix was founded. The Seigneurie remained until the French Revolution (1789-1799) in the family.

1793 Carsix received in the course of the French Revolution the status of a municipality and 1801 by the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte ( 1769-1821 ) under the name Carsi the right to local self-government. Even if the Seigneurien were dissolved by the Revolution, the family Fay remained until the beginning of the 20th century in the possession of the castle.

On August 28, 1833 traveled Louis -Philippe I ( 1773-1850 ) by Carsix. As a reminder, it now represents a second major market in Malbrouck was held. Before, it was only on 20 January a market.

During World War II (1939-1945), the Wehrmacht occupied the church and used the palace as a headquarters. After fleeing the Germans, the castle was used as a hospital. The castle park during which acted as a military cemetery.

Culture and sights

The Castle of Carsix was built by Pierre- Georges du Fay to 1741 on the foundations of an older building. His son Pierre -Philippe had built the chapel seigneuriale. The castle has two side wings. The facade is made of red brick and pale stone. After his marriage in 1900, Georges du Fay moved to the department of Manche and sold the castle in Carsix. It changed hands several times thereafter. After the Second World War, parts of the castle were destroyed by mold. As a private company in 1966 acquired the building, inside the building only an original furnished room in the style of Louis XV was obtained.

On the road to Plasnes a manor house with dovecote is in the classical style of the early 19th century.

In Carsix there are 31 houses and farms from the 17th to 19th centuries. Nine of them have been visited by the state office of monuments, most of them were from the 18th century.

Carsix is part of the Roman Catholic Community Communauté de Plasnes - Saint Léger de red, which belongs to the parish of Notre Dame de Charentonne of the diocese of Evreux.

Patron saint of the church Saint- Martin is Martin of Tours. The nave was built in the early 12th century, the choir was rebuilt in the 14th century bell tower and the roof of the nave were added or renovated in the 16th century. In the 19th century the church was restored.

Economy and infrastructure

In 2009, 23.5 per cent of workers were employed in the town, the others were commuters. 13.4 percent of workers were unemployed.

There is a nursery, a butcher and a commercial area in Malbrouck, which houses, among other things, a large hardware store chain Brico Deposit. The nearest railway station is in Serquigny. The nearest airport is Deauville Airport located 45 kilometers away in Saint- Gatien -des- Bois.

The municipal area controlled designation of origin (AOC ) for Calvados and pommeau ( pommeau de Normandie ) and protected geographical indication ( PGI ) for Pork ( Porc de Normandie), poultry ( Volailles de Normandie) and cider ( Cidre de Normandie and cider normand ) apply.

Personalities

  • Marie de Carsi, nurse of John I ( 15 to 19 November 1316), and daughter of Picard, the then Seigneur of Carsix, emerges as Marie de Cressay in the historical novels Les Rois Maudits by Maurice Druon.
