Carson City is a small city in Montcalm County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was recorded in the census in 2000 at 1,190 inhabitants. 1887 Carson City was registered as a village in 1960 as a city.

The city has a total area of 1.9 km ²; 1.8 km ² are land and 1.4 % is water.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, lived in Carson City 1,190 inhabitants in 496 households, including 312 families. The population density was 1,671 per km ². It 532 residential units were recorded. The population was 95.0 % White, 0.5% of African descent, to 0.2% of Native American, 0.4 % were of Asian descent, and 2.1% other origins; 1.9% came from mixed marriages. Hispanics or Latinos represented 4.5% of the population.

Of 496 households 32.5 % had children under the age of 18, 44.6 % were married couples living together, 13.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9 % were non-families. 32.3% of all households were inhabited by people living alone, of which 15.7% was 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.39 persons and the average family size was 3.01.

In the city lived 28.4% of persons under 18, 7.9 % from 18 to 24, 27.1% 25-44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.1 % were 65 years or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females residents accounted for 82 male residents. The 100 female population over 18 years were 75.3 male population over 18 years.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 32,500 U.S., a family is $ 48,221. Males had a median income of $ 31,442, while women $ 28,472. The per capita income for the city was $ 19,178.
