Carsten Hauch

Johannes Carsten breath ( born May 12, 1790 in Halden, Norway, † March 4, 1872 in Rome) was a Danish poet and physicist.

Life

Touch first studied law, then philosophy and science, in 1821 lecturer in physics at the Academy to Soro, 1821-1827 toured Germany, Italy and France and in 1846 professor of Scandinavian literature at the University of Kiel. When he was driven out of here by the outbreak of the revolution of 1848, the Queen Marie Sophie Friederike granted him refuge on the Frederiksberg Palace near Copenhagen. There he remained until he was appointed professor of aesthetics at the University of Copenhagen to Adam Oehlenschläger death in 1851. There he taught until his death.

Work

The student Oehlenschläger already developed in his first dramatic attempts Contra Stars ( 1816) and Rosaura (1817 ) an unusual talent. His subsequent tragedies were distinguished by character study and living color.

By epic- dramatic poem Hamadryads: Et episk above dramatisk Buried (Copenhagen 1830), he has earned recognition from the Romantics, notably by Ludwig Tieck. The works referred to have him as well as his Lyriske defendant (Copenhagen 1842, 2nd ed 1854) as a significant Danish poet recognize. They were followed later Lyriske defendant og Romancer (1862 ), among which especially the romance cycle Valdemar Atterday is distinguished by a rare rhythmic euphony and vital freshness, and Nye Buried Inger (1869). What characterizes touch, is an unusual depth of feeling and enthusiasm which so strongly drags him to the idea solid and mystical that over all his poetry is a deep, romantic twilight. Their strength is the delineation of character and wealth of images.
