Carsten Jensen

Carsten Jensen ( born July 24, 1952 in Marstal Ærø ) is a Danish writer and Professor of Cultural Analysis at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Southern Denmark. He has written four novels so far as well as some travel stories and several essays. His most successful novel is the work published in 2006, " Vi de druknede ", which was published in German under the title "We Drowned ". In Denmark, the novel with 120,000 copies sold, was an outstanding success. He has received numerous awards and been translated into 10 languages. It tells representative of the history of modern Denmark the history of his native town Marstal.

Carsten Jensen was named after his master's degree in 1981 in literature at the Copenhagen University with a dissertation on Hans Kirk, under the title Folkelighed og utopian in the 80s through a number of socially critical essays and articles for several Danish newspapers such as policies, Dagbladet Information, Ekstra Bladet and known Jyllands-Posten. From 1985 to 1990 he was editor of the magazine Fretag. Since 2001 he is Professor of Cultural Analysis at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Southern Denmark.

Jensen has received several awards, including the 1993 Georg Brandes Prize for his collection of essays Forsømmelsernes turned to 1997, the Golden Laurel of the book trade for his trip reports. In 2007 he was awarded the Danske Banks Litteraturpris for Vi, de druknede, 2009 with the Olof Palme Prize and in April 2012 with the Soren - Gyldendal price.

Jensen is married and has one daughter.
