Real caraway ( Carum carvi )

Caraway ( Carum ) is a genus within the family of Umbelliferae ( Apiaceae ). The species are widespread in the Old World.

Description

Vegetative characteristics

Carum species are biennial or perennial herbaceous plants. The leaves are pinnate two or three times.

Generative features

The doppeldoldige inflorescences may contain casings and Hüllchen. The flowers are hermaphrodite or partially pure male. The sepals are unremarkable. The petals can be white, pink or red, they are cut rounded obovate and deeply, they also have an inwardly bent tabs. The stylopodium ( pen pad) is cushion- shaped and has a flattened, wavy edge. The stylus is thin and elongated, the back curved scar is capitate.

The partial fruits are elongated and pushed along easily. Their longitudinal ribs are dull and their little valley ( valleculae ) wide and consist of a channel, the unification point out of two channels. The fruit holder ( Karpophor ) are divided in the upper part.
