Casimir Markievicz

Count Kazimierz Dunin- Markiewicz ( born March 15, 1874 in Denichowka, Circle Taraschtscha, province Kiev, Russian Empire, today Denychiwka, Tetiiw Raion, Kiev Oblast, Ukraine, † December 2, 1932 in Warsaw) was a portrait, genre and landscape painter, theater director and author of several plays.

Life

He came from the Polish gentry. As an ancestor of Dunin family is a certain Piotr Dunin, who under King Bolesław III. Wrymouth to have emigrated from Denmark to Poland in the 12th century. The family Dunin- Markiewicz originally from Kujawy and moved to Nowogrodzkie later. They had possessions in Ukraine ( Żywotówka, Jastrzębnice, Różyn ). Kazimierz was married in first marriage with Jadwiga Neyman († 1899). From this marriage was a son, Stanisław Dunin- Markiewicz - out, which is probably regarded as eight year-old boy in the painting (1896? ).

Kazimierz Dunin- Markiewicz studied from 1892 first law at the University and painting at the Polish Academy of Fine Arts in Kiev. In 1895 he moved to the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, where he exclusively devoted to the visual arts. There he met his second wife in 1899, the Irish freedom fighter Constance Markiewicz, born Goore - Booth, whom he married on 29 September 1900. From this marriage of their daughter Maeve Alys emerged. From 1902 they lived in Dublin.

From his pictures is the biggest part in Dublin, a few are in Poland (Muzeum Narodowe in Krakow, private property, etc.) to see. His talent is particularly evident in the large oil portraits of the two Polish President Stanisław Wojciechowski Józef Piłsudski and. The name of Dunin- Markiewicz has remained known to posterity mainly through his second wife, Constance Markiewicz. Towards the end of his life Dunin- Markiewicz worked for the American Consulate in Warsaw, as well as a correspondent for British magazines like the London Daily News.
