Castellón de la Plana

Castellón de la Plana ( Spanish name; Valencian Castelló de la Plana, both versions are officially ) is a city in Spain with 180 185 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013), located in the Autonomous Region of Valencia. Castellón is the capital of the homonymous province.

Geography

Castellón is located about 60 kilometers north of Valencia and 160 km south of Tarragona. Neighboring towns are, inter alia, Villarreal and Benicassim.

Education

To the west of the city, the University Jaume I of Castelló is (named after James I ( Aragón ) ) with about 13,000 students.

Traffic

In the city since 2008, runs the trolleybus Castellón de la Plana, currently the only trolleybus operation in Spain and also one of the smallest in the world. The Castellón airport is located 40 km northeast of the city center. It was inaugurated on 25 March 2011, but due to lack of permits he is not yet in operation (as of June 2012). Valencia Airport is located 80 km away.

Standards of Castellón

At a meeting of Valencian writer and linguist, was decided in 1932 in Castellón to use the codified by Pompeu Fabra and then in force already in Catalonia standards of the Catalan orthography in adapted form for the Valencian. Therefore, these orthographic standards as Normes de Castelló (, standards of Castellón ') respectively.
